Memphis Woodturning
Memphis Woodturning is a small woodturning studio producing hand turned wooden art forms and gifts. Wood salad bowls, decorative wooden bowls, salt and pepper mills, rolling pins and wine bottle stoppers, all one of a kind creations turned from "rescued" trees. The wood for these pieces all comes from trees that were destined for the landfill or burn pile. What little wood that's left over is turned into mulch for local gardeners.
"In a time when so many of the things around us are mass produced, I take the time to create unique treasures of true craftsmanship from something that would normally be discarded." says owner, Brad McCollum.
Brad McCollum is a wood turner, not a carver or a painter or a sculptor. When I take a piece off the wood lathe it is complete, but for a few coats of clear protective finish and my signature. The art is in finding that piece of wood with real character then carefully, painstakingly giving it just the right shape, exposing the natural color and visual texture of the wood. All the while, maintaining that perfect balance between function and pure artistic form.
