About Us

About Us

The Memphis Farmers Market is a not-for-profit outdoor market featuring local farmers. The market showcases locally grown produce and related food items from the Mid-South region and also serves to educate the community about food choices. Buying directly from the growers allows shoppers to ask questions and get answers from the source. The MFM operates every Saturday from May through October, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Central Station Pavilion, G.E. Patterson and Front Street. There's plenty of free parking, shopping and entertainment under a shaded canopy with benches for relaxing and listening to live music. It also features cooking, plant and nutition education demonstrations. The Market provides community development and is a great place to meet friends and neighbors.
The market is a non-profit organization supported by an all-volunteer Board of Directors and is supported by grants, memberships, sponsorships and vendor fees.

Our Mission
To serve as a community-gathering place where local farmers, producers and artisans can offer fresh agricultural and related products.
Goals:
• Improve the community's nutrition options with the highest quality seasonal produce
• Assist area farmers, producers and artisans with sustainable business opportunities
• Generate a sense of local pride and further the economic development of our community
• Provide a vehicle to educate the community on the importance of nutrition to good health

Environmental Philosophy
Starting in the 2008 season, the Memphis Farmers Market will begin supporting our new environmental philosophy and policies designed to encourage the use of recycled materials at the market, promote the use of alternative transportation to the market and increase awareness of all the environmental benefits of buying locally grown foods. We will be communicating this philosophy through our vendors and volunteers at the market as well as in our digital and print communications. To kick off this new policy in 2008, the market will offer recycling bins and provide our vendors and customers re-used plastic bags.

Our Environmental Philosophy is founded on three areas of action:

Recycle
• Encourage the use of recycled materials at the market
• Encourage recycling of materials at the market

Reuse
• Rather than purchasing new items, reuse readily available items
• Encourage use of already used plastic bags and reusable totes

Rethink
• Promote the use of alternative transportation to the market including the trolley, bus, scooter, golf carts, bikes, carpooling and walking.
• Promote buying local and eating greener by buying locally grown foods rather than the “1,500 mile” meal.
